Full Time: $28 – $30/hr
Position Summary: The Aquatic Director is responsible for overseeing the swim programs and staff of the Aquatic Department ensuring that all the swim programs contribute to the overall success of the Club. This is a FT on-site position that is responsible for providing safe, fun, current, scientifically sound and physiologically effective aquatic classes and instruction. This position maintains the professionalism and high standards of the Aquatics Staff. The Aquatic Director can also teach classes, coach swim team and lifeguard as needed. Work is reviewed in terms of member satisfaction, work and program safety, physiological soundness and enthusiasm.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain group lesson schedules throughout the year. Schedule lesson instructors and work closely with Operations department for registration process.
- Be the primary contact to address the questions and concerns of parents and team members.
- Enforce consistency in the program to ensure the best possible customer service and build relationships with members and guests to improve retention and to assist them in meeting their aquatic goals.
- Maintain constant communication with the Aquatic staff regarding all issues and any job related concerns with team members.
- Hire and train new aquatic staff with a focus on safety, enthusiastic programming, and club culture.
- Ensure staff is up to date with certifications and keep all records current and available.
- Ensure the safety of the aquatic center for all users.
- Keep other aquatic staff up to date with communications and department or club changes.
- Provide written input for department budget and newsletter content.
- Help Activities Desk stay updated with department schedules and registrations.
- Oversee condition of aquatic facilities to ensure cleanliness.
- Teach aquatics classes according to Columbia Athletic Clubs’ standards.
- Organize, construct, and participate in promotional activities.
- Attend local and national workshops if warranted; to remain current on developments in aquatics and provide aquatics staff with this information.
- Read industry magazines and other materials to remain current on developments in aquatics and provide aquatics staff with this information.
- Evaluation of safety, effectiveness and applicability of the aquatics products and practices.
- Ensure the aquatic facility is in compliance and prepared for any Health Inspections.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and equipment used in aquatic workouts.
- Well organized and accurate in the handling of paperwork and record keeping.
- Perform other duties as required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of teaching aquatics with the ability to instruct individuals and groups.
- Thorough knowledge of aquatics safety with the ability to teach.
- Ability to enforce pool safety regulations.
- Ability to interact effectively with people, supervise and motivate staff in a positive and constructive manner.
- Ability to make sound decisions under stress and emergency situations.
- Proficient in various lifesaving techniques.
- Good communications and leadership skills.
- Able to manage and lead staff.
- Maintain certifications as required.
- Be able to establish and foster a team environment.
- Available to work varied schedule including nights and weekends.
Qualifications:
- 2 years experience as an aquatics instructor.
- 2 years experience water safety instructor.
- CPR AED certified.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Excellent physical condition with good vision.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and LGI preferred.
